The Dutch (Europeans) have the privilege to be born in Freedom. Our ancestors have, with the help of our neighbors, fought for our freedom. I still commemorate every year, and with gratitude for our freedom. Freedom is not something obvious, you read about wars every day.
This freedom is primarily about people. We humans, free of atrocities taking place in wars. Exploitation, abuse, rape. Fortunately, we humans are smart enough to do our best to live in peace and to live together, with people of every faith and race. (Not that that is always so simple)
The freedom of animals against it’s a whole different subject, and therefore I like to focus on it next.
On 23 June 2010, at the Wadden Sea, The Netherlands, an Orca stranded and got ‘saved’. Morgan, was transported to the Dolphinarium, there she would be cared for and to gain strength, that she would be ready again to go into the wild, where she was conceived in the wide arms of the sea, where she grew up in freedom, has dived, has learned to catch food, was loved, has been released.
So far we understand our good intentions as a human beings, who are committed to want to save animals, such as the seals reception inTexel. By ‘ Lenie ‘t Hart’ . All shelters throughout the Netherlands. Capture, care, and then when they are healthy again, release them into the wild.
If we are sick, we go to the doctor, with hope that the doctor can help us, or refer you to a specialist who can help us, make us better, and can get on with our lives. This all sounds very logical.
Thus, it should be.
Would it not be that Morgan already lives in prision for two long years. In a way too small basin in the Dolphinarium. People who go there to watch Morgan, in my opinion, should know better. This means that Morgan is for a source of income for the Dolphinarium in Harderwijk. Animal Guardians have filed lawsuits to make sure that Morgan would not move to America or Spain, to be there in the same way to be exploited for money.
This was not the deal. They would provide Morgan until she was strong again, and then help her way to freedom, into the wide sea, which always had been her home, and where she will find her way again, as they did before.
At 21 November 2011 the Judge decided that it was in Morgan her best interest, to move to Loro Parque (I thought Loco at first but oh well… mmm) In Tenerife, where she again is exploited for money. She was flown out there 29th of November 2011.
The judges are now thinking over it fact if to free Morgan. The date is set on 13 December for the outcome. We do hope the Judge will set an example for ALL creatures who live in captivity, and give Morgan her Freedom back! There are so many people concerned about the fate and her release, and I can say, hats off to all that you do, to give Morgan the freedom she tripple as much deserves.
When a orca or dolphin strand on the beach, and for some reason it chooses so to die there, that choice to them, if that’s instinct I do not know. One thing I know one hundred percent sure that a dolphin or a killer whale will never choose her / his life to spend in prison, where she ‘s suposedly should entertain mankind, for money.
I wish the Judges VERY much wisdom, and Morgan all freedom, and thank everyone who give their voices to animalsrights, whose voices are often not heard by society.
Those who deny freedom to others deserve it not for themselves.
Freedom has its life in the hearts, the actions, the spirit of men and so it must be daily earned and refreshed – else like a flower cut from its life-giving roots, it will wither and die.
